David De Gea has spoken about his decision to sign for Fiorentina, saying it was an easy choice after spending more than a decade at Manchester United.

“It Was an Easy Decision”

Speaking about the move, De Gea said joining Fiorentina did not take long to decide once the opportunity appeared.

He said: “It was an easy decision. After 12 years at United, I needed a break.”

One Year Away From Football

The Spanish goalkeeper also revealed that he took a full year away from football after leaving Manchester United in order to focus on his personal life.

He explained: “So I took a year off to spend time with my family and friends — it was the best year of my life.”

Still Training During the Break

Even though he was not playing professionally, De Gea confirmed that he continued to train regularly during that period.

He added: “But I kept training with a fitness coach, Craig; he was very supportive and did a great job for me.”

Ready for a New Chapter

The move to Fiorentina now marks a completely new chapter in his career after more than a decade at Manchester United, and the goalkeeper says he feels refreshed after the year away from the game.
